Investigations on potential resident and bystander exposure from plant protection product uses in forest.

Project

Project code: BfR-SiP-08-1322-
Contract period: 01.01.2018 - 31.12.2018
Purpose of research: Applied research

The further development and improvement of assessment approaches in the field of health assessment of pesticides is an important task of Division 6 of the BfR. As part of a doctoral thesis, the exposure estimation for residents and neighbors in PSM applications on forest areas will be reviewed and further developed, since there are only a few data available. The project will be handled through the Center of Excellence for One Health Research and Land Use Assessment. Project components: 1) Digital representation of the neighborhood relationships of forest and settlement areas by means of GIS systems In a first comprehensive sub-project, the neighborhood relationships of forest and settlement areas will be analyzed with the aid of digital geodata. For this purpose, GIS data (JKI) for the federal territory as well as land use related data from other databases (for example ATKIS) are used for a single federal state. 2) Categorization of settlement areas with regard to the risk potential for residents through forestry applications of plant protection products Based on the results of the first sub-step, potential areas affected by PSM applications in the forest are to be quantified and categorized. For this purpose, approved applications of PSM in the forest are used and on this basis models of realistic exposure scenarios for residents and neighbors are made. In this context, also possible hotspots can be identified.
