Project code: JKI-ÖPV-08-1387
Contract period: 01.07.2017 - 30.06.2020
Purpose of research: Project preparation activity

The work described in this project is intended as preliminary studies for two existing projects in the planning phase. 1) Detection of D. suzukii: It is planned to develop a new, non-destructive method to detect infestation by larvae of the cherry vinegar fly (Drosophila suzukii) in various fruits as early as possible. If possible, the newly developed methodology should be able to be used both directly on the orchard and in a packing house with sorting plant. To this end, the following work will be carried out: establishment of a breeding farm for Drosophila suzukii in Berlin, production of different samples of fruits (e. g. raspberries, strawberries, grapes) with different degrees of infestation by D. suzukii. Measurement of the same fruit samples using Vis-NIR spectroscopy. 2) Chemically mediated resistance to D. suzukii. Bioassays and chemical analysis methods are to be developed and tested, which detect the resistance of fruits to D. suzukii and identify the responsible substances. These can then be used in cooperation with resistance breeders to identify markers for resistance and resistant varieties.
