Collaborative project: Development of indicators to assess the productivity, intensity of use and vulnerability of agricultural soils in Germany. Subproject 1 (SOIL-DE)

Project

Project code: 281B301716, JKI-PB-08-1263
Contract period: 01.09.2018 - 31.10.2021
Budget: 364,294 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: resource protection, resource efficiency, risk management, precision farming, evaluation, data collection, crop production, prevention, monitoring, digital world, climate (climate relevance, climate protection, climate change)

The project SOIL-DE develops indicators to assess the functionality, potential, intensity of use and vulnerability of soils in order to assess the quality and value of soils both retrospectively and under current usage. In addition, the acerage loss of soils will be assessed spatially, temporally and qualitatively. The joint project SOIL-DE combines four evaluation approaches to derive the yield potential, intensity of use and vulnerability of agricultural soils in Germany: 1. Development of indicators to assess the aptitude and utilization potential of agricultural soils, as well as the productivity with the aid of current remote sensing information, 2. Evaluation of remote sensing time series for the identification of the intensity of use and for the localization and area quantification of the soil area losses taking into account profile information of the soil survey, 3. Collection of relevant soil parameters (eg organic carbon content taking into account the LUCAS database and current SENTINEL-2 data, 4. Detection of the current agricultural use, its intensity and the current risks for soils in Germany.
