Determination of key figures for farm shops and development of an evaluation tool for horizontal and vertical comparison of key figures (Handbuch Hofläden)

Project

Project code: 2815NA195
Contract period: 01.09.2018 - 30.06.2020
Budget: 214,074 Euro
Purpose of research: Inventory & Assessment

The objectives of the project can be summarised as follows:
- Updating and extending the management manual for direct marketers
The key figures are to be updated and extended. This time the focus is on the analysis of the farm shop segment. The data basis should become more extensive and cover different types of farms. Farm shops of at least 30 organic farms, as well as for the first time at least 15 conventional farms and at least 10 social institutions employing supervised staff are included in the survey. The analysis of products produced in-house and marketed directly should be given special attention.
- Further development of the assessment tool for farm shops
The assessment tool, which was developed in 2006 and has been used so far, is to be updated and further developed.. In practice, there are increasingly technical difficulties with the application because no updates have been created for the Excel-based program. In view of advancing technical developments, a modern software solution is to be found and implemented. It is planned to create a database-based program that can be made available online. The newly-developed software is intended to increase user-friendliness and enable new calculation scenarios.
- Benchmarking for farm group comparisons and strength-weakness analyses of farm shops
Based on the data collected in the project, key figures are determined. The existing evaluation matrix is to be reviewed and redefined. In addition to the evaluation of the data for the individual farm analysis, it should be possible to carry out a cross-company assessment (horizontal farm comparison) of key figures and a presentation over several years (vertical farm comparison).
- Stabilization by ErFa groups
The creation of new and existing ErFa groups (Experience Exchange Groups) will ensure that the database is maintained and continuously updated beyond the end of the project and will promote networking and exchange of experience in the sector.
