Collaborative project: Set-up of methods monitoring Flavescence dorée and assessing any risks in German viticulture through autochtonous host plants as infection sources as regards spreading of the vector Scaphoideus titanus. Subproject 1: Coordination (FlavePrevent)

Project

Project code: 2815NA126, JKI-OW-08-1203
Contract period: 01.05.2018 - 30.04.2021
Budget: 275,896 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: viticulture, plant protection, phytoplasms, sustainable agriculture

The project aims at the evaluation and adaptation of methods for reliable detection of phytoplasmas in grapevine that are associated with the quarantine disease Flavescence dorée with the objective to provide the plant protection service in viticulture with a routine detection protocol for this pathogen. In addition, information needed for assessing the risks posed by vines infected with phytoplasmas of the 16SrV-group originating from endemic host plants will be acquired, because epidemic outbreaks of FD could emerge from those vines in the presence of the vector of FD which is currently expanding its range to the north. This work is expected to (i) provide the plant protection service with a reliable protocol for the detection of FD in vineyards and propagation plots, (ii) assess the risk of FD infection for vines posed by wild host plants infected with FD-related phytoplasmas and (iii) provide the data required for a well targeted monitoring and an improved risk assessment in relation to the expected future occurrence of the vector of FD in Germany.
