Food and consumer protection

This project contributes to the research aim 'Food and consumer protection'. Which funding institutions are active for this aim? What are the sub-aims? Take a look:
Food and consumer protection

Project code: BfR-EXPO-08-13xx-xxx
Contract period: 01.01.2019 - 31.12.2019
Purpose of research: Inventory & Assessment
Keywords: crucial ingredients, exposure assessment

The project aims to identify paint strippers that can be purchased and used by consumers. This also includes the documentation of the declared chamical ingredients as well as other product information, e.g. container sizes, classification and data from safety data sheets. This information is relevant for the consumer exposure assessment of substances, and part of it is the basis for a planned follow-up project, in which the chemical composition of selected stripping products is analyzed in a multi-step process. In this process, additional ingredients are identified and the concentration of the respective substances in the products is measured. Together with data from another planned project to assess consumer behaviour in the use of strippers, the data is used to prioritize substances and identify the need for regulation. Many of the solvents considered under substance evaluation under REACH are used in paint strippers. The results of the project improve the basis of evaluation in processes in scope of the REACH regulation. In addition, the data can be used to improve the estimation of consumer exposure to potentially hazardous substances in paint strippers and an evaluation of the default assumptions used to estimate the exposure to this product group.
