Interactive calculation and information system on animal welfare, environment and economy of sustainable livestock farming systems (InKalkTier) (InKalkTier)

Project

Project code: 28N1800001
Contract period: 15.12.2018 - 14.12.2022
Budget: 2,258,174 Euro
Purpose of research: Demonstration
Keywords: cattle, stable building, precision livestock farming, digitalisation, digital world, poultry, pigs, sustainability, knowledge transfer, networking

An interactive calculation and information system for livestock farming systems will be created in the project. It describes sustainable farming systems and evaluates them with regard to animal welfare and environment as well as to economic and work economic aspects. Already existing systems of cattle, pig and poultry farming will be updated and completed by providing additional systems. Rules enabling the user of the calculation and information system to change individual elements of selected farming systems will be developed and implemented through information technology. This changed system will be also evaluated with focus on the criteria described. The farming systems and evaluation rules will be discussed in cooperation with further projects of the federal program for sustainable animal husbandry as well as with internal project institutions. Results of the calculation and information system will contain information on animal welfare including animal health and animal behavior, emissions and further material flows (esp. farm manure), labor economics, investment needs, costs and management requirements. Data will be documented and calculated in the KTBL-database. The calculation and information system is part of the planned knowledge platform. Close and regular communication as well as networking with further projects and institutions are required for the project work. Improvement of the data basis is particularly needed in the description of animal welfare and feeding. Information on relevant livestock farming systems will be reliable and scientifically proven as well as evaluated with focus on the criteria described. This includes the definition of rules and calculation algorithms checking the plausibility of different farming systems and variants. Prerequisite for using the plannend online platform is the correct interpretation of data as well as the development of a logical data model including the implementation of calculations.
