Project

Project code: 28DE102A18
Contract period: 01.09.2019 - 31.08.2024
Budget: 1,083,815 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: digitalization

The continuing digitalization of agriculture and the enormous speed of technical progress have led to the Developments in the fields of sensor technology, robotics, automation, artificial intelligence and big data, offer agriculture outstanding competitive opportunities. With the establishment of the regional EXPRESS experimental field in Saxony we provide the basis for agricultural holdings to interaction of existing technical infrastructures with new technologies and methods as well as the products are created, tested and evaluated. Here the experimental field focuses on agricultural holdings for crop production (foreign trade), with a particular focus on special crops and addresses the areas of data economy, precision farming, field robots and unmanned aerial vehicles, sensor-supported pest infestation detection, and employee qualification applied by virtual reality and technologies for data transmission, in particular agricultural 5G applications, taking into account appropriate data standards. In addition to the technology-oriented test fields of the experimental field, EXPRESS also offers a comprehensive cooperation and knowledge transfer strategy, which combines the elements of the future programs of the BMEL and strategically supports from the outset synergies and the development of digital competence among farmers. Through the interdisciplinary cooperation of the experts from the experimental fields the proactive and regular exchange of experts will provide the basis for the development of standardized procedures, methods and solutions. The target group of EXPRESS is aimed on companies that want to use innovative technologies to develop new products and services to design value chains and optimize production processes. The work planning provides for nine work packages and uses an agile project approach. Three realeases of selected subprojects are planned. After an analysis phase and experimental field configuration, various interdisciplinary research artefacts will be provided, which will be evaluated and implemented as solution patterns for the real-world environment. The work on knowledge transfer and public relations is planned to run parallel to the course of the project. During the annual evaluation phase, work results will be reviewed and subjected to monitoring. In order to ensure practice-oriented research and analysis, numerous workshops, trade fairs, public events and conferences are held.
