ANALOG is an information and communication project for adapting forests to climate change. The basic idea is the use of analogue climates to translate scientific analyses about the future development of our forests into forestry practice and to facilitate implementation on the ground. Main target group are forest owners and foresters in the Nuremberg region, as well as other stakeholders and the general public. Three forestry cooperatives are actively involved in the project. The information and communication strategy is based on three main elements: (1) on excursions in analogue regions where the climate of tomorrow is already realized today, options for the future silviculture become directly experience-able and learnable for forest owners and stakeholders – uncertainties concerning new and unknown cultivation scenarios will be overcome. (2) Analogue stands in the Nuremberg region, whose species composition can already be regarded as a future oriented, are surveyed under classical silvicultural aspects and documented as a living 'sample booklet”. Thus, the managing of the still very rare analogue stands becomes also regionally experience-able for the forestry practice. (3) Information is offered in the form of trainings, consultations, case studies or simulating games. The material is presented on forestry internet platforms and events in order to support foresters and forest stakeholders in the consultation and implementation of measures for adapting forests and forestry to climate change.
