The Experimental Field Agro-Nordwest focuses on the practical digital transformation, mainly in arable farming. Considering the aspects of economy, ecology, and integrating humans, problems of a heterogeneous digital infrastructure, of a variable network coverage, and of changes in the agricultural working environment get addressed. With that goal in mind, it is essential for using the opportunities of digitalization in agriculture, to integrate involved humans early in order to unlock the potentials and reduce the risks by experimenting with realistic application pilots. Therefore, Agro-Nordwest will put the farmer and his application environment into the center to develop application-oriented solution approaches. Considering the value chain, the project will examine how digitalizing agricultural production processes will reconcile economic and ecological goals in agro-food production in the long run. The targeted result is a model of digitalized agriculture that is integrated into the economic and social ecosystems. To that end, an infrastructure of experimental farms will be set up that will serve as discrimination-free, manufacturer-independent, application-oriented test areas for applying innovative technology in practice. The project will specifically focus on the following areas and sub-issues: technology: economics of environmentally sound technologies, human and farm: transformation processes in digital agricultural production, networked processes: manufacturer-independent process chains, digital decision support: sensor and data-based decision support in crop production, agricultural systems of the future: field robotics in practice and digital qualification: practical concepts for knowledge and technology transfer for different target groups. Agro-Nordwest will continually contribute to transferring technology and knowledge from research into daily agricultural practice.
