Collaborative project: Assistance systems for intelligent cattle husbandry. Subproject 5 (CattleHub)

Project

Project code: 28DE108E18
Contract period: 01.12.2019 - 30.11.2024
Budget: 307,857 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: animal husbandry, data management, knowledge transfer, networking, business administration, sensor technology, precision livestock farming, husbandry techniques, digital world, cattle

The main objective of the project 'CattleHub' is the further development of sensor based assistance systems in diary farming. Actual different sensors near the cow deliver data according to their activity, the milk yeald, and the position of the cow in the barn. In future the farmer will have more information about the individual cow on its pc ore tablet. The challenge is to derive relevant and correct predictions according to animal health and farm management. The actual in the market available systems will be tested at three locations, (teaching and experimental stations in Bonn, Grub and Köllitsch in the three federal states of North Rhine-Westphalia, Bavaria and Saxony). Further Cow tracking data will be receaved from an experimental farm in Rhineland-Pfalz. Speacial research work is located in questions of energy supply of the sensors without battery and in new technics of animal tracking. Additional research questions are dealt with in energy efficient radio communication and the integration to business processes. For the transfer of knowledge, events are planned at which companies, consultants and livestock farmers will be informed about the status and possible uses of innovative assistance systems in cattle farming. Dairy farms that already use sensors and assistance systems will support the transfer of knowledge into practice. The acquired knowlege will be communicated to interested farmers in workshops and in practical model farms who already use the technic. The use of sensors integrated to an assistance system gives the opportunity to better standards of animal well fare according to the individual cow, which can be documented automatically in cooperation by farmer and veterinary. In hole the processes of animal husbandry will be more transparent for the farmer and also for the interested consumer. The project is divided into the following six experimental areas, which will complement each other in the project: 'Tracking', 'Sensors & Energy Supply',
