Production processes

Project code: A/19/01
Contract period: 01.12.2019 - 30.11.2021
Budget: 194,100 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: weed regulation, robotics, mulching materials

Since an increasing amount of herbicides is being banned from usage alternatives for horticultures are needed. At the moment several companies are developing autonomous systems for mechanical weed control, which are going to be market-ready in the coming years. To ensure effective usage of the new technologies an adaption of crop management (e.g. planting distance, order, frequency) will be necessary. A combination of working technique and crop management will be developed in order to receive an economic production method. Another approach to replace herbicides is the usage of mulch materials, which can be good alternatives especially in pomicultures and nurseries. To gain more experience, different covering methods and undersown crops will be tested, aiming for an effective but least-cost method of weed control.
