Production processes

Project code: JKI-RS-02-2352
Contract period: 01.01.2002 - 30.06.2006
Purpose of research: Applied research

The project contributes to the evaluation of genetic resources for the production of high quality food in sufficient quantities. Besides this, it contributes to a sustainable agriculture and the development of prospectives for rural areas broadening the genetic base of resistance against pathogens causing high yield losses which cannot be prevented by chemical measures.Hybrids of crosses of H. bulbosum with H. vulgare are evaluated concerning resistance to BaMMV by artificial inoculation in a growth chamber and concerning resistance to the whole virus complex on natural contaminated fields. These investigations give information about the inheritance of resistance and support the development of molecular markers.

BaMMV resistance detected in H. bulbosum was transmitted to H. vulgare. A dominant resistance gene was detected. These information are used to develop molecular markers in the partner institute.
