Technical approaches for the adaption of existing biogas plants to energetic utilisation of fibrous agricultural waste and residues (LaRA)
Project
Project code: 2219NR158
Contract period: 01.11.2019
- 30.04.2022
Budget: 303,142 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: biogas
In order to contribute to an increased utilisation of biogenic residues in biogas plants the overarching aim of the present project is to develop technical approaches and plant concepts to generate optimum conditions for the processing of the main residue categories solid manure, grass from landscape management measures and straw. The intended concept development is based on investigations on a representative number of selected biogas plants throughout Germany considering process-biological and plant engineering specifications as well as (socio-) economic perspectives. Besides a detailed documentation of the plant specifications and operator interviews onsite, the investigations include determination of the impact of the substrate substitution on relevant process parameters such as the potential for gas production, the rheology and substrate digestion as well as the wear characteristics of the mechanical components via laboratory analysis and process monitoring. Based on the data acquisition, the existing optimisation potential will be identified to define technical solutions for biogas production as well as the upstream and downstream processes. The developed measures will be summarized to comprehensive plant- and site-specific concepts and published in a handout for plant operators. To ensure a valuable guide for plant operators, a checklist-based structure of the recommendations for action is chosen to enable a methodical definition of the optimum concept considering case specific conditions, which are relevant for the whole value chain.
