Generative construction of sound absorbers panels based on fungi (FungiFacturing)
Project
Project code: 22013418
Contract period: 01.08.2019
- 31.07.2021
Budget: 206,513 Euro
Purpose of research: Experimental development
The market for sound absorbers currently offers only a few bio-based products. In the "FungiFacturing" project, fungal mycelium and plant residues will be used to produce innovative bio-based sound absorbers. A 3D printing process and the principle of double porosity, which in a combination of different pore sizes results in the optimal absorber effect for the product, are used. Fungal mycelium offers a very open-cell porosity in the micrometer range, which can be used particularly efficiently by the combination with larger pores in the millimeter range. The applied 3D printing process makes the required different layer structures possible. The combination of plant residues, fast-growing mushroom mycelium, 3D printing and the principle of double-porosity enables an innovative and customizable product. This can be produced decentrally with regional raw materials and promotes the high-quality vegetable raw materials.
