The adaptation of forests to climate change requires a rethink within the wood-using construction industry. The use of hardwoods is an important measure to improve the adaptation of the forest to climate change and the CO2 storage potential of wood in construction. For this purpose, a concept for a wildlife crossing made of hardwood will be developed within this project. Wildlife crossings function as an important compensatory measure for the increasing separation of forest areas. The implementation of new technology using hardwood for construction of a wildlife crossing would represent a ground-breaking combination of the necessity to reconnect forest areas and increase the material use of native hardwoods. This concept is intended to draw the attention of planners and decision-makers from the construction industry to the technical possibilities of building with hardwood and promote the material use of hardwood in the long term.
