Collaborative project: Implementation of urea inhibitor formulation for ammonia mitigation as well as sustainable, animal and environmental friendly cattle husbandry. Subproject 4 (Prax-REDUCE)

Project

Project code: 2813IP033
Contract period: 01.04.2020 - 31.05.2023
Budget: 415,752 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: animal husbandry, stable climate, emissions, husbandry techniques, cattle, climate, climate relevance, climate protection, climate change, agricultural engineering

The results of research project REDUCE (FKZ: 28RZ372030; 28RF372031) clearly prove the significant reduction of ammonia emissions (NH3 emissions) by 40 to 60 % caused by regular applying urease inhibitor (UI) under practically relevant conditions in naturally ventilated dairy barns. Additional outcome of the project is a usable UI formulation. Based on this the project Prax-REDUCE should accomplish the prerequisites, which are finally necessary to transfer and establish UI usage in broad agricultural practice (cattle farming). Thereby, a feasible, manageable, good controllable and documentable NH3 mitigation measure should made ready for the market, easily applicable in various types of (dairy) barns. The intended end-to-end solution consisting of UI formulation + doser + mixing and filling unit + application technique is a worldwide new, innovative approach with large reduction capability. This could make an essential contribution to achieve and satisfy German obligations under Directive (EU) 2016/2284 on the reduction of national emissions of certain atmospheric pollutions (ammonia emissions: by 5 % for any year from 2020 to 2029, by 29 % from 2030).
