The objective of the MMI 2030 project is the development of innovative HMI concepts for agricultural machinery for the 2030 time horizon as well as the evaluation of these concepts on the basis of prototypes. At the center of this project are the user’s knowledge, skills and needs in the context of an advancing digitalization and continuously increasing autonomy of agricultural processes. The goal is to create a more attractive, efficient, adaptable and continuously beneficial workplace on the equipment for high skilled and low skilled operators alike. This means, for example, that the user should be provided with a customized and motivational interaction to be able to address additional, more complex tasks. Multi-modal and adaptive HMI technologies, which allow a coordinated visual, acoustic, and tactical interaction, provide a design space for this to be explored in this project. Selected technologies like voice and gesture control or haptic feedback are meant to be integrated into the existing working environment to address the user and the task at hand. To achieve innovative and workable solutions, user-centered methods and prototype evaluation processes will be used. To ensure the applicability for market-ready products, five target scenarios reflecting typical fields of use will be examined. The key project deliverable will be an integrated prototype of the operator’s workplace in the year 2030. This prototype combines physical components with digital content (e.g. Virtual Reality) and thereby links the immersion of real operator environments with the flexibility of digital content. The MMI 2030 project is broken down into five work packages. The aim of WP1 is to create a consolidated knowledge base for the development of future usability concepts and a further clarification of the task at hand. The methods used are, amongst others, personas, user journeys and qualitative interviews with lead users and experts. The final results are synthesized results of th
