Climate change

Project code: KL/18/03
Contract period: 01.04.2018 - 31.03.2021
Budget: 218,600 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: climate change, urban climate-resilient tree species, urban tree testing, leaf/ bark/ soil temperatures during heat periods

As part of the project "Urban Green 2021", 29 selected tree species are tested since 2009 and 2015 respectively for their urban climate resilience. First results are available for the hot-spot Würzburg and the frost site Hof/ Münchberg, yet the study will be continued till 2021 to verify recommendations for professional practitioners. Extensive continuous temperature measuring from the root up to the crown ("fever charts") of native and alien tree species are carried out to demonstrate what severities urban trees are exposed to at street sites during heat periods. Results will furthermore show, if the more heat-resistant continental species are able to regulate temperature impacts better than native tree species.
