Production processes

Project code: JKI-A-08-1295
Contract period: 01.01.2021 - 31.12.2024
Purpose of research: Inventory & Assessment

The aim of the project is to survey the current stage of infestation by the beet cyst nematodes (H. schachtii) in sugar beet crop rotations as part of the monitoring continuously carried out on permanent observation sites since 2003 and the importance of other host plants (e.g. cabbage, rape) for the increase of the nematode populations considering the particular dynamics of the population development in virgin soil. Furthermore, the effect of known plant cultivation methods to reduce the infestation of H. schachtii, such as the use of catch crops and the control of volunteer rape in the field will be investigated. In order to be able to assess the potential and limits of catch crop seed mixtures for reducing nematode infestation, a series of field tests is being planned, for which preliminary results from a bachelor thesis already exist.
