Collaborative project: Nanobiotechnological detection of Phytophthora species by means of biochips with electrical signal read-out – Subproject 2

Project

Project code: 2814202706
Contract period: 01.07.2007 - 31.07.2010
Budget: 266,370 Euro
Purpose of research: Experimental development

Plant protection and diseases are gaining economic importance. In this regard phytopathogenic microorganisms for instance the genus Phytophthora plays an important role. Task of the BECIT GmbH was the development of a molecular biological detection system for different Phytophthora spp.. Four new cultivation independent test systems were developed for the detection of the genus Phytophthora, and for the detection of the species P. ramorum, P. hibernalis, and P. kernoviae. The genus specific system detects the species P. hibernalis, P. kernoviae, P. ramorum, P. lateralis, P. cinnamoni, P. citricola, P. nicotianae, and P. alni. The developed test systems were optimized regarding specificity, sensitivity, including the sample processing and were evaluated by the test of real samples. The experiments of this projects showed, that using the developed test systems it is possible to detect different Phytophthora spp. with a genus specific test system.
