Collaborative project: Reduction of the amount of plant protection products in pomiculture by adaption the densitiy of foliage wall – Subproject 2

Project

Project code: 2814204106
Contract period: 01.03.2008 - 31.10.2010
Budget: 129,509 Euro
Purpose of research: Experimental development

The objective of this endeavour was the development and testing of a usable technical solution that leads to reduced environmental pollution as a result of fewer plant protection products and which provides competitive advantages to the manufacturer. These competitive advantages resulted from the potential cost advantages to the user that can be achieved with this technology. Due to the lower environmental pollution associated with it in comparison to conventional technology, this is of relevance to the whole company. The endeavour has aimed at the optimization of the chemical pest control in the cultivation of apples. The reduction in the quantity of pesticides used at the same time resulted in a reduction of the risks associated with them. The task included the testing of the technology provided, including the proof of the scope of the realizable savings. It was the objective of the test to provide proof of the reducibility of the plant protection products use in the cultivation of fruit with the pesticide device equipped with a gap switch. This objective has been achieved by reducing the amount of pesticide sprayed by means of switching off the nozzle when encountering gaps in the foliage. At present, rows of trees are sprayed continuously over the whole height of the treetop. However, the need for pesticides for gappy and therefore less leafy fruit plantations is now lower by comparison.
