Purpose of research: Experimental development
In the research project a manned leading tractor was coupled with an unmanned following tractor to accomplish the same working process. This system was tested successfully on two demonstrator vehicles in the field. The simulation and field test results have shown that the control strategy developed for the wireless communication achieves a stable and robust data exchange between the two tractors in the drawbar system. The unmanned tractor is able to follow the leading tractor with a lateral offset and react on the commands which are given by the driver on the leading one. Hereby the system is also able to perform obstacle avoidance and turning at the field end.
