Project code: BfR-LMS-08-5Z-008
Contract period: 01.05.2005 - 31.12.2007
Purpose of research: Applied research

A validated analytical method for the determination of ergot alkaloids content in food primarily has been developed.; ; Based on this method, food samples of the market should be analysed for residues of ergot alkaloids with the aim to estimate a possible risk of exposure. Additionally, feed samples will be analysed to estimate the potential consequences for animal health caused by ergot alkaloids. The method should be provided to the German official control laboratories‘s and should be applied for monitoring studies. The generated data provide a substantial basis for discussion on setting maximum levels in food and feed.

Yet, two liquid chromatographic measuring systems coupled with fluorescence spectrometry and tandem mass spectrometry were established. Various analysis methods had been taken from the literature and were tested. The most promising test system will be checked carefully and validated.
