Purpose of research: Basic research
A controlled study was started in 2001 to characterise the PBDE levels in human milk from Germany and to verify potential factors influencing PBDE levels. Two main hypotheses were proposed: 1) PBDE levels may be higher in milk fromm mothers who consume food of animal origin than in milk from mothers who do not. 2) PBDE levels in human mild may decrease during the period of breast feeding.
