Pilot project to develop and implement a quality-fair-value concept along the value chains in the field of organic agriculture and food industry

Project

Project code: 2808OE132
Contract period: 03.12.2008 - 31.10.2010
Budget: 168,355 Euro
Purpose of research: Inventory & Assessment

The aims of this project are: - the development of a fair-price concept which is based on quality parameters and equitable trading relationships covering the complete value chain of the organic industry, - the implementation of the QFP Concept into practice by a pilot scheme, - and strategies for transferring the results for other companies/enterprises other than the partners/collaborators of the pilot scheme. A fair value chain partnership includes fair trading relationships as well as product quality and sustainability parameters, transparency as well as standards for social management. In a coordinated process, existing protocols will be used as a basis for the development of obligatory standards for producers, processors and retailers. This project is closely related to the aims of the BÖL, because the organic industry is strengthened by the definition of new quality standards integrating all stakeholders of the value chain. Because of the integration of practitioners coming from various levels of the value chain a high degree of know-how-transfer is guaranteed. In close collaboration with market participants new „quality“ and „fairness“ standards will be defined across the organic value chain. In addition, a verification scheme for the processing and retailing sector will be described. On the basis of the existing theoretical and practical concepts an appropriate marketing concept will be developed which wil be tested, evaluated and optimised in the field. On the basis of this optimised marketing concept a pilot project will be launched. The results of the project will be represented in an information brochure and will be advertised widely to encourage other organic enterprises/institutions to follow our approach and support fair and qualitybased systems.
