Purpose of research: Basic research
Ciguatoxin derivatives are formed by tropical algae. They easily climb up the marine food chain and accumulate in predatory fish. The consumption of that kind of fish can cause poisoning in humans and even death in certain cases. Since such type of fish finds a ready market that is still growing, the development of a detection method as a precaution for consumer’s health protection seems indispensable.
