Project code: JKI-PB-08-1207
Contract period: 01.04.2014 - 31.03.2017
Purpose of research: Applied research

PROMISE can be described as a continuative and subsidiary, yet discrete project of the approved flagship project BalticManure (Baltic forum for inventive technologies for sustainable manure management). The overall target of PROMS is to deliver strategies and tools for closing the phosphorous (P) cycles in the BSR and reducing significantly the discharge of P from agriculture into the Baltic Sea. The project covers numerous relevant aspects, which are not covered by BalticManure but indispensable for predicting and steering future developments. These aspects imply the sustainable and efficient production of P fertilizers by recycling adequate sources. PROMS will convey backbone data on potentially hazardous contaminants in organic and recycled P fertilizer materials, will assess environmentally sound strategies for P fertilization that fully acknowledge food safety, security and hygiene and thus will deliver the scientific background for the justification of fundamental changes in existing fertilizer practices within the BSR.
