Spatial and Temporal Variability of Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Farmers‘ Rice Fields under Water-Saving Strategies in the Philippines

Project

Project code: 81118486
Contract period: 01.10.2009 - 30.09.2012
Budget: 184,088 Euro
Purpose of research: Basic research

The overarching goal of the project is the regional up-scaling of CH4 and N2O emissions under different water-saving/management characteristics. The specific goals are to 1. Assess temporal variability of CH4 and N2O emissions in farmers‘ fields practicing watersaving techniques. 2. Study the spatial variability of emissions as affected by distinct water-saving practices of different farmers. 3. Calibrate and validate a bio-geochemistry model (DNDC) to the specific conditions in two regions of the Philippines (Central Luzon and Central Visayas). 4. Implement the DNDC model into the newly developed modeling framework for ricecropping systems (APSIM). 5. Develop a methodological framework for using remote-sensing data for regional upscaling of GHG emissions from rice-cropping systems.
