Purpose of research: Basic research
Local metabolism in the target tissue can explain the tissue-specific toxicity of chemicals. Prerequisite for local metabolism is the presence of xenobiotic-metabolising enzymes in the target tissue. CYP enzymes play a key role in the metabolism of foreign compounds. These enzymes can be determined at the activity, protein or mRNA level. The project is aimed at the quantification of xenobiotic-metabolizing CYP enzymes in the human lung and at determination of their variability within different human individuals
