Required investment for loose housing suitable for horned dairy cows
Project
Project code: 2811OE052
Contract period: 01.04.2012
- 31.12.2013
Budget: 9,801 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
The terms of the EC Organic Farming Directive mean that routine dehorning of dairy cows can no longer be carried out as in the past. There’s therefore more requirement now for housing concepts suitable for horned dairy cows. The aim of the planned project is to determine required investment for loose housing in this respect. Building plans and cost calculations will be determined for a cubicle house and a bedded loose housing barn design, each for three different herd sizes. This means that six planning examples are to be produced. It is expected that housing for horned dairy cows will be more expensive than for dehorned or hornless ones through the requirement of more space per animal. Used for defining the required investment will be the KTBL Baukost programme already applied for determining investment costs in housing for organically managed dairy cattle without horns (KTBL 2010). The results will rep-resent important input factors for further viability calculations.
