Project code: JKI-ZR-08-1100
Contract period: 01.08.2008 - 30.06.2011
Purpose of research: Applied research

Based on a segregating population out of a cross between Gf.Ga-52-42 x Solaris a genetic map with SSR-markers will be established. The downy mildew resistance of Solaris can be traced back to the Asian species Vitis amurensis. The resistance mechanism of Solaris against downy mildew can be ascribed to the formation of callose in the stomata respectively the production of viniferin. The population will be screened for downy mildew resistance respectively for the intensity of callose formation and the intensity of viniferin-production. Molecular markers shall be identified for occuring QTLs (quantitative trait loci). Pyramidizing of downy mildew resistance genes can be verified within the investigated population because Gf.Ga-52-42 carries a locus with resistance genes for which molecular markers are already available. Hence genotypes with the combination of the resistance sources of both parents can be identified and used for further breeding. Finally the genetic resources with the genetic background of Vitis amurensis shall be screened for the presence/absence of these newly developed molecular markers.
