Purpose of research: Applied research

Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus are cause nosocomial infections in humans in hospital.MRSA have been isolated from the noses of slaughter pigs in Germany in 2007. The prevalence of MRSA in food of animal origin shall be determined in the course of an active monitoring of zoonoses in 2008. The carry over of nasal MRSA on the carcass in the abbatoir is a potential hazard to food safety.
