Determination of di-iso-butylphthalate (DiBP) and di-n-butylphthalate (DnBP) in paper and board packagings for infant formulae and in the packaged food
Project
Project code: BfR-PRS-08-1322-323
Contract period: 01.04.2008
- 31.12.2008
Purpose of research: Applied research
New findings show a high transfer of DiBP into foodstuffs from paper and board packagings containing recycled fibres (up to 5 mg DiBP/kg). Its use in dispersion glues used in paper packagings and products not intended for use in food contact applications is deemed to be the source for the presence of DiBP. When recycled DiBP is released from this material into the paper cycle and thus can be subsequently found also in food packagings.
Fat-containing, powder and fine grain foods like rice, baking mixtures or breadcrumbs were particularly affected. On the contamination of foodstuffs for infants and small children only scanty data are available.
This research project shall improve the data available in respect of the contamination of baby and infant food with DiBP and DnBP.
