Toxin production of Vibrio spp.
Project
Project code: BfR-BIOS-08-1322-408
Contract period: 01.04.2009
- 31.12.2010
Purpose of research: Applied research
The main task of the NRL for bacterial contaminations of shellfish is to identify pathogenic bacteria and to carry out a risk assessment of these bacteria. Bacteria of the genus Vibrio are frequently isolated when seafood is investigated for bacterial pathogens. In this project real-time PCR methods and immunological methods will be developed to study the ability of Vibrio strains for toxin formation qualitatively and quantitatively. These investigations will provide a basis for the risk assessment of the pathogenic potential of Vibrio strains, thus serving the demands of preventive consumer protection.
