Project code: BfR-LMS-08-1322-465
Contract period: 01.03.2011 - 31.12.2011
Purpose of research: Applied research

Brassica vegetables have been highly valued by large groups of the population in Germanydue to their beneficial health effects. Recently, the group of Prof. Glatt (DIfE) could showthat the consumption of raw and steamed broccoli and other Brassica vegetables resulted incharacteristic DNA adducts in human oral mucosa and in leucocytes. Also after feedingbroccoli to mice and rats adducts were detected in colon, liver, lung and kidney. Therefore itis necessary to further analyze the possible carcinogenic effects on the molecular level bygene expression profiling in order to provide more data for cancer-associated risks of Brassica vegetable consumption.
