Reporter gene assays in permanent cell lines as screening tools for the detection of food contaminants
Project
Project code: BfR-LMS-08-1322-450
Contract period: 01.04.2010
- 31.12.2011
Purpose of research: Applied research
The detection of food contaminants such as dioxins, mycotoxins, pesticides or perfluorinated compounds with classical analytical methods is expensive and time-consuming. The con-cept of effect-based analytics is based on the detection of biological effects induced by the substances or substance class mentioned above. In many cases, these biological test sys-tems are not as expensive as chemical methods; in addition they allow a higher throughput of samples and support their application in routine analysis. They have the capability to be employed as screening methods in control laboratories. Therefore, the development of novel screening methods based on biological systems is a siginificant benefit for food control and supports food safety and consumer protection.
