Project
Project code: BfR-SiN-08-1322-362
Contract period: 01.04.2008
- 31.12.2011
Purpose of research: Applied research
3-chloro-1,2-propanediol (3-MCPD) is a food-borne contaminant found in a wide range of retail processed foods. The occurrence of fatty acid esters of 3-MCPD is also described in literature. At the end of 2007 the CVUA Stuttgart detected extremely high levels of 3-MCPDesters in refined plant oils and fat containing foods, amongst others in nougat spread and infant formula. As a consequence of, the BMELV entrusted the BfR to organize a working group ?Analytik?. One aim of the working group is the validation of a method of analysis of 3-MCPD esters in oils and fat containing foods by proficiency testing.
