Determination of the isomerization and oxidation products from long-chain, polyunsaturated conjugated fatty acids in novel oils from the marine micro-alga
Project
Project code: BfR-LMS-08-1322-356
Contract period: 01.04.2008
- 31.12.2008
Purpose of research: Applied research
In the requested project it is proposed to investigate the levels of polyunsaturated conjuga¬ted fatty acids in novel oils from the marine micro-alga. Thermic processes like deodorisation may play key roles among the parameters influencing the developing levels of isomerization and oxidation products of long-chain, polyunsaturated conjugated fatty acids. The aim of this project is to develop robust clean-up procedures and analytical method applying AG+-HPLC and GC/MS for the analysis of the CLAs, CEPA, CDHA und FFAs.The proposed pilot project will result for the first time in reliable values for contamination of novel oil samples with trans fatty acids and long-chain conjugated fatty acids. Until now, the data collected with the analytical methods available for polyunsaturated conjugated fatty acids and their oxidative products have not been sufficient but are required for the health evaluation.
