Project code: BfR-BIOS-08-1350-001
Contract period: 01.11.2005 - 30.11.2008
Purpose of research: Applied research

The efficiency of probiotic supplementation (Enterococcus faecium) for the reduction of pathogenic agents modelling Salmonella Typhimurium DT 104 was investigated with a challenge study in pigs. Results of bacteriological examination reveal that faecal shedding of salmonellae was higher in pigs which received the probiotic strain and also the bacterial manifestation in organs was significantly higher than in pigs of the control group which received no probiotic supplementation.
