Project code: BfR-PRS-08-1322-239
Contract period: 01.03.2005 - 31.12.2008
Purpose of research: Applied research

For consumers the use of cosmetics and commodities is associated with skin contact and the dermal exposure to several chemicals. To assess possible health risks it is necessary to determine the amounts of chemicals that become locally and systemically available from cosmetics or from migrates of commodities. Skin penetration of the known skin sensitizer 2-mercaptobenzothiazole (MBT) shall be investigated in vitro. Both, soluble BMT and migrates from commodities shall be taken into account. Additionally, the direct penetration of MBT from rubber products through the skin shall be measured.
