Action Programme Environment and Health. Project: Improvement of the /Recording of Human Exposure Data for the Quality Enhancement of the Monitoring System 'Cases of Poisoning Reported by Physicians under Section 16e of the German Chemicals Act
Project
Project code: BfR-QUER-02-1331-149
Contract period: 01.12.2000
- 31.01.2004
Purpose of research: Basic research
The reports by physicians under Section 16e Chemical Act have shown that human exposure data quality and product identification have to be improved. Under the routine conditions in doctor?s surgeries and hospitals, the most important exposure data such as products involved, pathways, assessment of the amounts ingested or inhaled should be documented as exactly as possible. The study is focused on dyes, lacquers, glues and pesticides, with acute, short- and long-term exposure in indoor and outdoor areas. The analysis of the cases is based upon the routine datasets of reports under Section 16e (from the recent research project EVA (UFO-Plan No. 11606073) with add-ons for exposure data. The data analysis is to be carried out by means of the SAS(R) software package. The results of the research project as related to the exposure data should be used for the early and systematic detection of substance-related health impairments, especially for the BfR toxicovigilance tool PRINS. The improvement of the monitoring system under § 16e will enable the BfR to request from the German industry their responsible care duty at a very early stage. Findings of the research project could be used in routine documentation of the German poison control centres.
