Coloured blooming winter peas in pig feed under the conditions of organic farming
Project
Project code: 2811NA036
Contract period: 01.04.2012
- 30.09.2013
Budget: 45,544 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
The aim of the project is to determine the contents of digestible and indigestible nutrients and convertible energy as well as the development of recommendations for the optimal use of coloured blooming winter peas in pig feed under the conditions of organic farming.
If the use of winter peas is equal to the use of summer peas, or alternatively if a proportion of summer peas can be exchanged by winter peas, is tested through a comparative use of summer peas and coloured blooming winter peas. To be able to estimate the impact of thermal procession on the digestibility and on secondary (anti nutritive) components processed and unprocessed winter peas are used. The determination of digestible nutrients and convertible energy is carried out using growing pigs with a weight of 40, 52 and 65 kg biomass. In the digestion-balance-experiment the maximal tolerable use in the mast period is going to be determined through the use of different quantities of processed and unprocessed winter peas. In a third step the use of coloured blooming winter peas is tested under on farm conditions on an organic pig farm. It is expected that the findings of the project contribute to a needs based feeding of fattened pigs under the demand of the use of 100 % organic feed.
