Collaborative project: Developement of an innovative approach to adapt the application dose of plant protection products to the conditions in fruit growing – Subproject 2

Project

Project code: 2815406310
Contract period: 01.03.2012 - 31.12.2014
Budget: 66,480 Euro
Purpose of research: Experimental development

As part of a three year project, a model for reducing the amount of plant protection product (PPP) has been studied. The model calculates the amount of PPP which has to be applied in regard to equipment and orchard-specific parameters. An assessment on the biological effectiveness of the dose-model had been carried out in five orchards in the region “Niederelbe”. Currently, a widespread use cannot be justified. In spite of reduced costs for the farmer, the resulting damage, especially in years with high pathogen infestation, is higher than the benefit. A weakness analysis based on investigations in the orchards showed that an increased infestation could not be excluded. Despite that fact, some of the orchard farmers involved in the project were not dissatisfied and since an influence of deposition and penetration was visible, there is in future a considerable need for research.
