Project code: 2817400411
Contract period: 01.05.2012 - 30.04.2015
Budget: 446,305 Euro
Purpose of research: Experimental development

"Disturbance of udder health and associated milk loss have a leading effect on economy and efficiency of resource utilization on dairy farms. The aim of milchQplus was to optimize udder health on a nationwide level based on new mastitis diagnosis tools and information structures and processes. Based on the DHI Data and in terms of an early-warning system, new key figures were developed to document the actual situation of herd udder health and its dynamic. A monthly udder health report displaying these key figures has been developed and introduced, reaching 48.000 farms with 3.7 million cows. It enables the objective and farm individual monitoring of udder health on herd level. Besides identifying operative weak points, also the benefit of an optimized management can be directly assessed. Furthermore, instruments for the identification of cows with poor healing prognosis have been developed, as these animals significantly account for the use of antibiotics in dairy cattle farming."
