Purpose of research: Applied research
In 2008, bovine besnoitioses was diagnosed in Germany for the first time. Diagnostic tests have to be established, standardized and validated.
It is the aim of the project to establish reference tests, to validate commercial B. besnoiti specific serological assays and to identify B. besnoiti infected animals unambiguously in epidemiological studies.
Moreover, it is necessary to identify new diagnostic antigens or tests suitable to differentiate reliably between acute and chronic infection.
Specific PCR tests need to be established.
