Fine mapping, cloning and characterization of fire blight resistance genes from Malus fusca

Purpose of research: Basic research
The project is aimed on the identification of fire blight resistance genes via genome walking. A large progeny will be establish to determine the position of the resistance genes by identifying and inoculating recombinants precisely. A n already established BAC libraray will be used to screen for BACs presumably containing fire blight resistance genes. The resistance genes will be identified by sequencing the BACs and possible resistance genes will be tested for functionality.
