Regulation (EU) No 252/2012 of the Commission describes methods of sampling for the official control of dioxins, dioxin-like PCB (dl-PCB) and non-dioxin-like PCB (ndl-PCB) in certain food.
Annex II, number III of Regulation (EU) No 252/2012 specifies the requirements for the preparation of incremental and aggregate samples. In dependence on the size and weight of the fish (incremental sample) or the size and weight of the aggregate sample resulting from several fishes sampling procedures are described. Details about an optional inclusion of all edible parts of the fishes are missing. Information about the sampling procedure at specific fishes, such as flatfish, is not given. The lack of guidelines complicates a uniform procedure for sampling in EU Member States. The kind of sampling could have a decisive influence on the analyzed levels of dioxins and PCBs in fish samples. This could result in an over- or underestimation of consumer exposure with dioxins and PCBs.
The aim of this project is to investigate the influence of different sampling methods at small and medium fishes with different fat contents on the dioxin and dl-PCB levels.
