Project code: BfR-BIOS-08-1322-NEU (539)
Contract period: 01.03.2013 - 31.12.2013
Purpose of research: Basic research

Molecular typing methods are a prerequisite for the surveillance of leptospirosis and epidemiological studies on the occurrence and distribution of Leptospira spp. To date, multilocus sequence typing (MLST) is the most meaningful molecular tool to distinguish the multitude of leptospiral species/ serovars. Therefore the MLST recommended by the International Leptospirosis Society will be established at the Consiliary Laboratory for Leptospira. The method will also be implemented to examine the epidemiology of leptospirosis in rodents in Germany.
