Assay of toxic compounds in smoke of water pipes

Purpose of research: Basic research
About 100 million individuals are smoking water pipes daily. Recently, the use of water pipes increased in Germany. Only a very few data are available on the content of toxic compounds in water pipe tobacco and in the smoke of water pipes. In a biomarker study with 10 smokers of water pipes the tobacco samples will be analyzed for humectants and nicotine content.
